Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive ADHD

Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive ADHD is the presentation of the condition characterized mainly by hyperactivity and impulsivity, with less prominent inattention. It's the most visible type and, historically, the most frequently diagnosed — especially in boys.

Symptoms include: intense motor restlessness, difficulty staying seated when expected to, running or climbing in inappropriate situations, inability to engage in quiet activities, talking excessively, interrupting others, difficulty waiting one's turn, and acting before thinking.

In adulthood, motor hyperactivity often decreases and turns into inner restlessness — a feeling of always being 'switched on,' difficulty relaxing, racing thoughts. Impulsivity tends to persist more.

💡 Practical example

A boy who can't sit still for more than 5 minutes, keeps fidgeting even while seated, talks nonstop, and often says things without thinking through the consequences may have the hyperactive-impulsive type of ADHD.
